Welcome to our proprietary effective community engagement model; the
It starts with cocoa. Community members volunteer their time and efforts in exchange For access to a free all-girls school and highly subsidized healthcare. Community members assist with work on a community-run cocoa farm that is managed by Cocoa360 and supervised by the village committee (VC) and Schools’ PTA Executives.
At the end of the harvest cycle, Cocoa 360’s staff and the various committee members from the community come together to debrief on the crop year. Farm managers are mandated to provide updates on the total number of bags harvested, costs incurred and revenue realized.
With guidance from Cocoa360, community members decide by voting on a tiered system on the application of revenue generated towards healthcare or education programs.
Located in the Prestea-Huni Valley District in the Western Region of Ghana is our TBCE which includes a girls’ school, community health clinic, and cocoa farm.
Our team designs, implements, and evaluates interventions to improve education and health outcomes.
The Tarkwa Breman Girls’ School (TBGS) is a tuition-free primary school. Parents volunteer their labor on our TBCE cocoa farm in exchange for access to a tuition-free education for their daughters.
TBGS has 240 students enrolled in four grade levels, with a new class of 30 girls enrolled each September.
The TBCE’s 10-acre cocoa farm provides a dual purpose: volunteer labor hours worked at the farm by community members provide free education for their daughters at the girls’ school, and our team can test Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for cocoa farming and improve crop yields.
Our community health clinic was established to address the community’s need for access to affordable, quality healthcare. Today, our clinic provides subsidized care for the community of Tarkwa Breman and the 7 nearby villages.
Watch our COCOPOPP impact!
Because Cocoa360 is a community-based and community-driven initiative, it works with the Village Committee, who serves as the link between the organization and the community to ensure that the programs are continually in line with the needs of the community.
